Johnnie L. Hogans |
Johnnie L. Hogans was born in Denison, Texas on January 17,1947, to the parents of the late Johnnie Leon and Louise Hogans. He was the first born of four children.
As a child, Johnnie was a faithful member of St. Paul Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Willie Cathcart of Terrell, Texas, until he moved to Dallas. He accepted the Lord as his savior in July 2001. Johnnie was a 1965 graduate of Terrell High School where he was active in the high school band playing the baritone saxophone under the direction of Mr. C.W. McCloudy and Mr. Walter Shaw Jr. After high school Johnnie moved to Dallas where he attended Technical Business School, and later received his license as a certified heating and air conditioning technician. He joined the Daimler Chrysler Family in Carrolton, TX. where he worked as a warehouseman in the parts division. While working at Daimler Chrysler, he was drafted into the military, serving with the United States Army in1966. His tour of duty took him to Fort Polk, Louisiana, Virginia, San Diego, CA., and various other places including Vietnam.
After his tour in the Army the Daimler Chrysler family welcomed Johnnie back, where he remained until retiring in May 1999. He began his retirement by walking at least four miles a day, playing golf, watching sports, offering words of encouragement to the sick, visiting and feeding the homeless at the shelters around the Dallas area, and enjoying life.
He admired many educators of Terrell High who gave of themselves untiringly by instilling in him principles and values, which helped shape his entire life (Mr. D.D. McKnight and Coach W.W. Alexander were teachers who really had a positive impact on Johnnie).
On September 24, 2001 Johnnie fell to sleep in death. His father, Johnnie Leon Hogans and brother, Albert D. Hogans preceded him in death.
Johnnie leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Janice Hogans; mother, Louise Hogans of Denison, Texas; grandmother Gertrude Fulbright of Denver, Colorado; sisters, Gwendolyn White of Dallas, Texas and Mary Howard of Duncanville, Texas; nephew (whom he raised) Albert D. Hogans Jr., of Carrollton, Texas; daughters, Marie Gibson and Arnette Cox; son, Artie Cox; aunts, Washanell Hogans and Willa Bonner; great-aunts, Viola Walker, Lela Brooks; grandchildren, Christopher Miller, Wesley and Arrianna Cox, and Myeshia Johnson; mother-in-law, Marie Evans; son-in-law, Carl Gibson; daughter-in-law, Melissa Cox; brothers-in-law, Don A. White and Leroy Evans Sr.; nieces, Portia Simpson Babineaux, Simone Howard; nephews, George Babineaux and Leroy Evans Jr.; and a host of cousins and very special friends.
