Charles Ray Chumley

Charles Ray Chumley, age 75, entered into eternal life Saturday,        

 August 20, 2011 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.


Mr. Chumley was born February 5, 1936 in Denison, Texas the son of Richard and Hazel (Green) Chumley. Charles graduated from Terrell High School. He married the love of his life, Vernetta Harian August 31, 1960 in Denison, Texas.

 

 

He served his country proudly in the U. S. Army. Charles later retired from the Katy/ Union Pacific Railroad as a conductor after 30 years of service. He never met a stranger, had a wonderful personality and a big smile.

Charles was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be greatly missed but will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Mr. Chumley is survived by his beloved family, wife of 51 years, Vernetta Chumley of Denison, TX, children, Janice Patten, Carolyn Harian, Gwendolyn Thomas and Jackie Don Chumley, grandchildren, Jamillah Brown, Christe (Marcus) Allen, Maleah Harian, and Mignon Phradichith, great grandchildren, Ethan Allen, Alahni Phradichith and Kingston Phradichith, siblings, Lillian Allen, Lola Johnson, Brenda Carlisle, Ernest (Nora Jean) Chumley, Billy Ray Chumley and Hosea (Belinda), Godchildren, Latonya Ross, Kylan Ross and Kamery Ross, lifetime friends, Robert L. Goins and Hubert Pressley. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard “Sonny” Chumley.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 25, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Denison with Rev. Michael Braxton officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Denison. Public viewing will be held from 9 to 5 Wednesday and Thursday morning.

Pallbearers will be Hosea Chumley, Anthony Smith, Kylan Ross, Michael Fitzpatrick, Jolan Ross and Joe Ross. Honorary pallbearers will be Hubert Pressley, Billy Ray Chumley, Ernest Chumley, Marcus Allen, Robert L. Goins and Milton Pettis.
